Proposal Photography + Engagement session | Central Park, NY

One of my favorite gigs is being the surprise Wedding Proposal P{hotographer. I’ve had these gigs at least once every year since I’ve been shooting. Not often enough you might think ? Naaaw, it’s JUST enough so that each one is memorable and gets all the attention it deserves. With the extensive amount of planning that goes into each session, I don’t think I could afford to do more of these and still carry out as many of my professional and personal creative pursuits.

Nick, the groom-to-be first got in touch with me about one month before his planned trip to New York City. In our first phone discussion I learned that he and Shelby have been a couple in Austin Texas for about three years, and that she’d just graduated from college last month. Nick already had a few ideas about where he wanted to pop the question, but he wasn’t sure which one of them would be the best to execute, as far as photography was concerned. This is where my experience and understanding of New York pedestrian traffic, and of other land mark traits would help Nick decide on the best place to propose.

After we decided together that the Central Park Conservancy Garden possessed the best characteristics, the ball was then in my court to help decide on the details of the proposal itself. This meant going to the garden and coming up with a game plan to suggest to Nick about where a great spot to propose would be. I collaborated with Nick about this during the weeks leading up to his trip, and we’d decided that the proposal would happen in the English Garden of the Central Park Conservancy.

On the morning of the proposal Michele and I got ourselves to the garden just after opening. We wanted to be there early enough so that we could get a sense of the light, and also of the foot traffic. We also took the time to rehearse in position for the proposal. We had pictures of the couple so that we’d recognize them, never having met either one before our session in the garden.

When Nick arrived, rather than bee-lining toward the spot we discussed, he meandered around the garden for a while as we tailed them. Just as planned.

This was one of the best proposal/engagement sessions I’ve had all summer, I hope you enjoy a selection of the photos Michele and I created. Nick & Shelby are an energetic, and enthusiastic about life couple. We wish them the best on their nuptials and in starting their life together.

My love of portrait photography at the core stems from my curiosity and interest in people’s lives. Being a New Yorker puts me in touch with so many people at any given moment that it fuels my curiosity like no other place on the east coast probably could. As Brooklyn wedding photographers, Michele and I have experience serving a diverse clientele which continues to increase at an exponential rate every year.
I love meeting other New Yorkers, and it takes no time before many of our clients are getting along just as old friends might. It’s during Engagement sessions and weddings when Michele and I shine brightest, as we love exploring the dynamic between couples through photography. We look forward to working with ALL couples to make you look natural and your best!
